What is PEMF Therapy?

PEMF is an acronym for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. PEMF is a type of therapy that promotes cellular communication, which in turn enhances self-healing and wellness

PEMF machines work in conjunction with the body’s own recovery processes to relieve pain by restoring cells’ ability to function efficiently.

Our skins, bones, and organs are composed of tiny cells. The membrane of a healthy cell has both positive and negative charges that are required for the exchange of potassium, sodium, and calcium ions. When cells become distressed from disease, trauma or toxins, they lose their ability to function efficiently. PEMF restores the positive and negative charges in the cell, enabling it to perform its natural function while speeding tissue recovery.

The human body requires electricity to send signals through the body and to the brain. PEMF therapy works effectively to re-align the electric potential of our cells.

Resting cells are negatively charged on the inside, while the outside of the cell is more positively charged. The flow of charges across the cell membrane is what generates electrical currents.

When a cell is stimulated, it allows positive charges to enter the cell through open ion channels. The inside of the cell then becomes more positively charged, which triggers further electrical currents that can turn into electrical pulses, called action potentials. Our bodies use certain patterns of action potentials to initiate the correct movements, thoughts and behaviours.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

PEMF is extremely low frequency pulsing energy ranging from 1 Hz to 50 Hz.

 

Electromagnetic fields are usually mixed up with 50 or 60 Hz electromagnetic radiation around high voltage power lines and transformers, which generate a continuous electromagnetic field.  

 

The behaviour of cell phone mast electromagnetic fields is completely different from PEMF and the warnings should be taken seriously because they are correct! 

History of PEMF

PEMF therapy actually originated from NASA’s research involving the benefits of pulsed electromagnetic fields on astronauts for fatigue, depression, bone loss and other symptoms following even short trips to outer space. Scientists discovered that the cause was due to astronauts being without this beneficial natural field emanating from our Earth. At the same time the Russians were doing similar research for their cosmonauts

Some of the first devices were invented in Czech Republic and then introduced to Hungary in the 1980’s

In September 2003 Thomas Goodwin, Ph.D. of NASA who investigated the effect of electromagnetic fields on neuronal cells, published an experimental study to find out if it was possible to stimulate regeneration or regrowth of neural tissue with electro magnetic fields in order to improve electrical conductivity between the neuronal cells. The study concluded electromagnetic field stimulation improved regrowth by 250% to 400%

Veterinarians were some of the first health professionals to use PEMF therapy, usually to heal broken legs in racehorses.

PMF’s and Pets

The metabolic rates of animals are so much higher than humans and therefore they respond to PEMFs much more dramatically. There is a vast array of different conditions in animals that may be treated with pulsed electromagnetic fields. PEMFs are often preferable to treatment with medications or may be able to be used alongside medications. As in humans, magnetic field therapies could be used for almost any condition, because of the very basic actions of magnetic fields on all biology.

As in humans, PEMFs penetrate the entire volume of the animal body, including stimulating every individual cell in their path, to produce the results. As a result, by increasing the metabolism and energy in the individual cells of the body, the animals are often able dramatically to improve their healing, whether from injury, surgery, infection or other conditions.
