Rehab following breast cancer surgery!

Talk about a balancing act! Lorraine will have her hands full in 2017. She will be the Lead Physiotherapist at Spire Thames Valley managing a group of physiotherapists and working with orthopaedic consultant surgeons. She will continue to support and travel with the local car racing team worldwide and provide screening and exercises plan to F1 testing drivers and young drivers. Lorraine’s interest in shoulder and movement analysis has led her to plan a new service at Scorpio Clinics for cancer patients, mainly breast cancers. This specialist out-patient service will provide rehabilitation for all patients who undergo treatment for breast cancer. Lorraine will be assessing patients’ post-operative phase for the main sequelae, including loss of shoulder mobility. Ongoing physiotherapy care includes manual therapy treatment, exercise and advice on self-management and return to work. Patients are re-assessed at key stages in cancer pathway including during chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Physiotherapy intervention allows early identification and management of some of the consequences of treatment and helps to avoid delays to radiotherapy due to poor shoulder mobility.
